Animacor 2007 Tribute: Alexandre Petrov

Montoro's Municipal Theatre, November 9th (9pm)

Petrov workPetrov work

Every year, our festival renders tribute to a well deserving professional in animation, and we also decide, why not, that among those receiving tribute, we also include our stars (last year it was Mickey Mouse), not to mention institutions and organizations related to our world in one way or another.

This year, we thought of Alexandre Petrov, the most surprising and at the same time fascinating artist to come out of contemporary animation. As the director of this Festival, it is up to me to reflect on everything Alexandre Petrov represents in a few lines. There is so much to say about this artist that I wouldn’t even know where to begin, though after thinking a lot on it, I realized that it was not necessary to say anything; his extraordinary awards speak for themselves. See for yourself:

  • Grand Prize of Stuttgart (Germany) in 1984.
  • Nominated for an Oscar at the Academy Awards in 1990.
  • Grand Prize of Hiroshima in 1990.
  • Grand Prize of Bombay in 1992.
  • Grand Prize of Leipzig in 1993.
  • Special Jury Award of Annecy (France) in 1997.
  • Grand Prize Cinanima (Portugal) in 1997.
  • Hiroshima Award in 1998.
  • Grand Prize of Espinho (Portugal) in 1998.
  • Grand Prize of Zagreb in 1998.
  • Nominated for an Oscar at the Academy Awards in 1998.
  • Grand Prize of Annecy (France) in 2000.
  • Audience Award of Annecy (France) in 2000.
