RULES AND REGULATIONS. ANIMACOR 2007

1. Date and Venue.

The 3r International Animation Festival, ANIMACOR 2007, will take place on November 5-10 in the city of Córdoba (Spain).

2. Objetives.

ANIMACOR 2007 is a cultural event which aims to contribute to the development of the animation industry, while promoting the exchange of knowledge and experience among different countries, and establishing international relations between producers and filmmakers.

ANIMACOR 2007 is created with the aspiration to become an annual meeting point for professionals, filmmakers and the general public.

3. Competition Categories

ANIMACOR 2007 will have the following competition categories:

  • 3.1 Feature Film: Films with a running time of more than 60 minutes.
  • 3.2 TV series: consisting of a set of episodes, with or without a common generic title, intended to be screened successively and continuously; each episode may be a complete narrative unit, or may be continued in the following episode.
  • 3.3 Short Film: Films with a running time under 20 minutes that are not part of a series.

All entries using any frame-by-frame animation technique will be admitted for competition.

4. Entry Requirements.

  • 4.1 Entry in any of the official competition categories is open to any producer or director who owns the copyrights for the film submitted. He or she will be recognized as the only person entitled to negotiate all aspects related with the film participation in the Festival, and will hold the sole responsibility for handling issues with any businesses or people who may have taken part in the production of the film.
  • 4.2 Competition entries must have been produced after January 2006. The Selection Committee of the Festival reserves the right to accept, under exceptional circumstances, any film for its special contribution to the Festival.
  • 4.3 Producers may submit as many entries as they wish in each category. Each entry must be submitted in a separate disk with its corresponding entry form. The Selection Committee will automatically reject entries that do not comply with the requirements established in these rules.
  • 4.4 Entries must be submitted in their original language.
  • 4.5 The Selection Committee will choose the entries that will participate in the official competition of the Festival. The Selection Committee will finish its commission on September 10th, 2007.
  • Once an entry is selected and registered it cannot be withdrawn from the program.

5. Registration and Documentation.

For registration purposes participants must supply a copy of the film in DVD (preferably in Zone 2) with the attached Entry Form, properly completed and signed, no later than August 15th 2007. For TV series, sufficient episodes must be submitted to ensure a minimum duration of 26'. For series whose episodes last between 22' and 26' each, a minimum of two episodes must be submitted.

Submissions will be accepted provided that they are postmarkerd before August 15th, 2007, as long as the name of the film and the director sent by fax to: +34 957 21 12 66. The sent material must arrive within 7 calendar days. Please send entries to the following address:

The outside of the shipping package must have a label indicating the production company, the title, the director, running time in minutes and nationality of the film, with the word ANIMACOR´07 displayed in a visible place.

Registration is free of charge. The following documents must be enclosed with the registration form:

  • a) Photocopy of the ID/TIN or passport of the person representing the work.
  • b) Synopsis.
  • c) Biography and Filmography of the director and/or of the production company.
  • d) Two stills from the film and one recent photograph of the director(s) with a minimum resolution of 300 dpi, in tiff, jpg or psd format.
  • e) Original dialog track of the film with a translation of the script into Spanish and English.
  • f) Documentation of the film (poster and press collateral).
  • g) For the Series Category, an additional file describing the remaining episodes (both those completed and projected) must be provided and, when appropriate, a list of television channels that have purchased broadcasting rights.

The above documentation is mandatory for participation in ANIMACOR´07. Entries that do not comply with the aforementioned requirements will not be admitted for the official selection.

Selected entries will be included in the Festival Catalog, showing images and a synopsis of the film.

6. Official Selection.

Selection Committee, consisting of field professionals and members of the Festival organization team, will choose among all entries submitted the ones that will compete in the Festival. The decisions will be notified to those selected as of September 15th, 2007.

The decision of the Selection Committee will be final. A maximum of 6 feature films, 20 short films and 8 series may be selected for competition.

The Organization will determine the screening date and order for each film, and reserves the right to screen the films on the dates and venues that it considers appropriate. It is understood that, by taking part in the Festival, the producers and directors of the films grant authorization for such screenings.

The films selected for the official competition will be submitted in the best quality professional format (35mm, 16 mm or BETACAM SP) no later than September 30th, 2007, to the address mentioned on point 5.

ANIMACOR'07 guarantees the electronic subtitling in Spanish of all selected entries that require it.

Along with the copy, the sender must provide a shipping notice, communicating shipment of the film, and the date and format of the shipment.

It is also compulsory to enclose a “Bank Account Identification” certificate, (using the form provided by the organization) duly stamped by the branch at which the account is held, showing details of the account into which the prize should be paid.

Participants authorize the Organization to show excerpts of the films in any mass media for the purpose of promoting the Festival. Furthermore, the Organization may use photographs of the films and the directors in the press and other media, as well as for creating the Festival Catalog.

7. Jury.

The Festival Organization will appoint a jury. The members of the jury must meet the following requirements:

  • a) The Jury will consist of professionals from the arts, culture, or audiovisual fields.
  • b) The Jury will have a minimum of five members.
  • c) Any individual with an interest in the production or distribution of a competing film may not be a member of the jury.
  • d) Jury deliberations will be confidential and decisions will be approved by simple majority. The Festival Organization will witness jury deliberations, however, it will not take part in the voting.
  • e) Jury members firmly agree not to make public statements or express theirs opinions about films considered in their deliberations before the official announcement of the awards.

Any emerging conflict (whether organization or event-related) not contemplated in these Rules will be resolved by the management of Animacor'07.

8. Awards.

The Jury will grant the following Awards, any of which may be declared vacant, at the jury's discretion:

  • BEST FEATURE FILM: 12.000 euros and trophy.
  • BEST TV SERIES: 6.000 euros and trophy.
  • 1ST PRIZE FOR BEST SHORT FILM: 9.000 euros and trophy.
  • 2ND PRIZE FOR BEST SHORT FILM: 6.000 euros and trophy.
  • 3RD PRIZE FOR BEST SHORT FILM: 3.000 euros and trophy.
  • A Children Jury will be appointed, which will grant a SPECIAL AWARD to the BEST TELEVISION SERIES, consisting of 3.000 euros and trophy.
  • RTVA PRIZE FOR ANDALUSIAN AUDIOVISUAL CREATION, worth 3,000 euros and a trophy (in cooperation with the Cajasol Social Fund): This prize-winning entry will also be screened on any of RTVA's television channels, so the appropriate contract will have to be signed, assigning non-exclusive broadcasting rights for a three-year period. Signing of this contract by the prizewinner or the holder of the rights will be an indispensable requirement for collection of the prize money, which is subject to current tax legislation. Payment of the prize money by bank transfer will be deemed to cover the contract of assignment of rights. The contract will also cover the right of reproduction and free distribution of prizewinning entries in DVD format for unlimited time and over an unlimited area.

No award may be given ex-aequo. Jury decisions will be final. Awards may be accepted by the producer(s) or any person(s) representing the producer(s).

By taking part in the Festival, winners are deemed to have granted the Festival material possession of the prizewinning DVD, together with the right to make cultural use of the DVD within the province of Córdoba, provided that such use is for non-profit-making purposes and does not imply loss of author's copyright over the DVD. Copies will become part of the Animacor film archive held at the Andalusian Film Institute.

All prizes are subject to tax withholdings as established by the current and applicable law.

The producers of the awarded films agree to mention the award in all publicity and press material, and must faithfully and completely reproduce the Jury's statement and the Festival logo.

9. Shipping and Returning Copies.

Transportation and Insurance cost for shipping the DVD copy submitted for consideration will be at the participant's expense until its reception by the Festival organization. The Festival will not cover the cost for shipping the material back to the participant.

Transportation cost for shipping back the selected copies in 16 mm, 35 mm or BETACAM SP format will be covered by the participants. Also, the Festival organization will be responsible for the insurance cost incurred for the copies from the moment of their arrival at the Festival reception site until the time they are delivered by the carrier. In the event of destruction, loss or deterioration of a copy, any claims must be received by the Festival organization within one month of receipt by the producer. The Festival will have a limited liability, which under no circumstances, will exceed the cost of replacing the copy, per the current fee applied by Spanish laboratories for printing a new standard copy.

Copies submitted in 16 mm, 35 mm or BETACAM SP format will be returned upon completion of the Festival to the address indicated in the appropriate box of the entry form. If any information is incorrect or incomplete, the Festival disclaims any responsibility for any delay or loss occurred when returning the material.

Any entries whose return is not requested will be placed in the ANIMACOR film archives held at the Andusian Film Institute, where they may be conserved, consulted and shown for non-profit-making purposes.

10. Acceptance of Rules

Participation in ANIMACOR 2007 implies the acceptance of all sections of the present rules.

In the event of discrepancies on the interpretation of these rules, the Spanish version of the Rules will prevail.

11. Data Protection.

The submission of personal data, on forms, by e-mail or by any other computer-based means, implies the user's consent for ANIMACOR to make confidential and computerised use of that data, in accordance with Spanish Organic Law 15/1999, of 13th December, regarding the Protection of Personal Data (LOPD). In compliance with the principle of personal data quality, as laid down in Article 4 of the said Organic Law, the user undertakes to provide true, accurate, complete and up-to-date data, that truly reflect his/her situation.
