Pilar Ortega Espejo is originally from Huetor-Tájar in the province of Granada (Spain). In 1984 she majored in Journalism from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid and then began a Masters of Arts in Mass Communication at Bowling Green State University (Ohio,USA) where she presented her thesis “Towards a New Order of Broadcasting in the EEC” (1987).

As a journalist she has worked for newspapers (Diario 16 de Andalucía) as well as in broadcast journalism (WBGSU, Ohio). Since her arrival at the Radiotelevisión de Andalucía (RTVA), she has specialized in the co-production of documentaries and fiction programs for Canal Sur Televisión. From 1992 her professional career has gone hand-in-hand with her teaching at the Facultad de Ciencias de la Información, the Production course, at Seville University. The new business trends in the television industry led her to be responsible for the distribution, dubbing and co-production unit at the RTVA between 1997 and 2000.

Today, she is in charge of the Coproductions Department at Canal Sur Televisión. She was nominated at the 2003 Goya Awards for the animation film The prophecy of The Alhambra, a coproduction between Lotura Films, Canal Sur TV and ETB.
