WHEN I GROW UP, I WANT TO BE LIKE BILL
When I grow up I want to be like Bill. Like Bill Plympton, not like Quentin Tarantino’s Bill. That guy is evil as hell. And our Bill, Bill Plympton, is as good as the Good Witch of the North from “The Wizard of Oz”. Though sometimes our good witch can have a dark side. And looks into his crystal ball.
When I grow up I want to be like Bill. Like Bill Plympton. Bill watches over his one thousand incredible creatures from his crystal ball. They all live in different worlds. Alternative worlds. Bill manipulates, twists, disintegrates, reinvents, and unnerves all and every one of his characters. From the tender ear of corn that ends up in a boiling pot (“Lucas, the ear of corn”) to the unfortunate smoker who, coughing, regurgitates his own lungs (“25 ways to quit smoking”).
When I grow up I want to be like Bill. Like Bill Plympton. Going to festivals selling DVDs of my films. Drinking wine and cola at the Week of Terror of San Sebastian. Hypnotizing Terry Gilliam with my surrealistic drawings. Making beautiful girls fall in love with my black-and-white TV star smile. Inviting her to a double feature at the neighborhood drive-in. Today they're showing "How to Kiss" and then a feature film: “I Married a Strange Person”. I’ll make a move on her at midnight and we’ll spend a great evening together.
When I grow up I want to be like Bill. Like Bill Plympton.
